Introducing Ms. Colette Winlock
Introducing Ms. Colette Winlock
A New Executive Director for HHREC
Starting January 3rd, 2011 the Health & Human Resource Education Center had a new Executive Director. Colette Winlock is not, however, new to HHREC. She has been the Project Director of the Black Women’s Media Project for several years and was actually one of the project’s founders back in 1997.
Under her leadership BWMP has created magazines, media campaigns, and an unprecedented series of self-care retreats for men and women in the African American community. She has also played a major role in coordinating and carrying out needs assessments, media campaigns, technical assistance, and community outreach as part of HHREC’s ongoing participation in mental health work at the county level.
Colette’s impressive resume, outside of her work with HHREC, includes starting a local chapter of the National Black Alcoholism Council, co-creating and coordinating major projects of the Bay Area Black United Fund (including the widely-successful Health Conductors, and the annual African American Health Summit), coordinating a network of African Americans devoted to the health and healing of their communities (SASHA, Self-Affirming Soul Healing Africans), working with former San Francisco 49er Delvin Williams coordinating youth physical education programs, and working at Project Eden as a first-responder to those in substance-abuse crises.
On top of all of this, Colette is a former Track & Field state and national champion, and is currently authoring her first novel “Undoing Crazy.”
She brings vision, passion and commitment to her new role, as well as strong community connections. The staff at HHREC are excited to support Colette on the road ahead as she breathes the next generation of life into the incredible agency she inherits.
